LHB farmhouse table

Okay I did lots and lots of table searching.  For the size table I wanted I could not get my hands on anything less than $2,000 and that was firmly NOT in my budget.  I also didn't want to put two tables together.  After much thought I also wanted a wide table.  Wide enough to place the food down the center and room for quests to eat.  So no narrow table for me.
I can't find the construction lumber photos.. But this is just standard lumber.

The table is 2 x 6 and 2 x 10 for the end and middle boards.  I liked the look of the bread board tables.  Also that allowed me to get 8 foot long 2x6's and keep my cost down.  I decided on 4x4 posts for the legs.

I did not want middle legs in the way of chairs.  So I did one center post.  I kreg gig screwed from the under side.  And pocket drilled holes for the table skirt board.

I decided to sand and stain the posts before putting them on.  It took four men and me to flip this bad boy over.  I didn't take a close up but this had to be planed and sanded like crazy.  I took a hand planer first than started with 80 grit and ended with 220.  Took FOREVER to get the top level.

Almost done.

We have a walkout basement where this table is going so we picked this up little guys for $10 each at Northern tools.  They worked like a charm. We took the middle leg off and pushed it around.

Okay confession, the table rolled around perfect. Fit through my french doors.  BUT, I had the pool table put together and it was in the way so, I had to get neighbor men to turn it back on the side and roll it past the pool table, flip and set it in place.

Gary stained it.  He does good work.  Final size is 172 inches by 66 inches.  (5.5 feet by 14 1/3 feet)  I cut the 2x6's down to have wood for my bench and to size the table for the opening area.

No poly yet.  We are out of time this weekend.

Okay what I learned from this.  I would build this from the top down if I ever did this again.  IT was crazy heavy.  Also you spend time getting the under side boards level and you should really be worried about the top boards.  This would cut down on sanding like a crazy person.

Construction list

12-  8' 2x6 (table top)
1- 4x4 post 12' long cut into 5 legs
3- 8' 2x10 (table top bread board ends & middle section)
3- 16' 2x4  (the skirt & middle brace holding middle leg)
8- 8' 2x3 (bracing)
3 boxes for 2 1/2 inch washer head pocket screws (extra long kreg screws are hard to find & pricey)
Total cost of table was $225 and that gives me the extra wood for my bed convert bench project.

Huge shout out for the kreg gig.  Love that thing.

Happy building.
