Today I found two tall gold lamps with the shades on Craigslist for $20. I knew the
moment I saw them I wanted to wrap them with rope. Perfect lake house decor. I got 2 prepackaged rope bundles (50 feet each) at Lowe's for $9 each. Here is the after beside the before.
I used gorilla wood glue (because that is what I already had at home) and hot glue. I would put a section of glue then a dot of hot glue to hold the rope until the glue set up. I am a "gluer" I tend to use to way to much. I need these lamps to hold up to a house full of guests. I don't like to "redo" things -so I use glue. I went through 20 sticks of hot glue for both lamps (one dot at a time) but I have a super cheap glue gun that uses the tiny sticks. It tends to drip on large jobs, so I lost a stick with drips. (well that is my story and I am sticking with it.) ;-)
Now I am guilty of a vision -without measurements. On the way home from picking up the lamps I found this fabic at JoAnn's in the red tag section $6 a yard at 1.5 yards I was super happy. I would get custom shades for 3.75 each. Problem... Shades are slightly tappered. Grrrr.
Both lamps turned out great. I am very please with the outcome. The shades however are
a different story. As you can see this is not going to work.. You can't wrap a tapered
shade with stripes... Double grrr. On another note spray adhesive is your friend. I will use the tack mode (light spray let it dry) to set things in place. Then I will spray them for a permanent hold.
I will have to come up with another idea for recovering the shades.
They are bad shape.. Brain storming begins. Pintrest here I come.
Happy Crafting.
